Basic
- Vertical or horizontal power strip with no meter/monitoring features. Sometimes referred to as a "Dumb PDU"
Metered
- Vertical or horizontal power strip that monitors and reports (typically on LED screen) the electrical load or power utilization of the unit or any branch circuit.
Monitored
- Vertical or horizontal power strip that allows the user to securely view the status of each circuit on their network or via the Internet. (Typically done via an SNMP Card)
Switched
- Vertical or horizontal PDU with the same ability as the Monitored unit but with the added ability to control (turn on/off) the unit/receptacles remotely.
Managed
- Vertical or horizontal PDU with all the same ability as the Monitored and Switched units plus the ability to meter each individual receptacle.
